Moxi & BBL Light Therapy
At PHI Medical Aesthetics, we believe that healthy skin is an investment in your long-term confidence. If your complexion is feeling a little dull, or you're noticing the lingering effects of sun exposure and environmental stressors, our advanced energy-based therapies can help hit the reset button.
What can Moxi & BBL address?
We offer both Moxi and BroadBand Light (BBL) treatments to safely repair damage, refine texture, and bring out your natural, healthy glow. When you visit us for an assessment, we'll evaluate your complexion and determine which technology (or combination) will yield the best results.
| Aesthetic Concern | Target Area |
|---|---|
| Uneven skin tone and texture | Full face |
| Sun damage and pigmentation | Face, neck, and body |
| Vascular concerns and redness | Face and neck |
| Active acne breakouts | Face and body |
Meet the Moxi Laser: Your Skin's Reset Button
If you aren't quite ready for an aggressive laser treatment but want to stay ahead of the aging process, Moxi is the perfect "prejuvenation" option. It's a gentle, comfortable treatment that helps maintain vibrant skin and prevents signs of aging before they become noticeable.
What to Expect with Moxi
After your session, your skin will feel a bit like it has a sunburn, and you might notice some redness and swelling for an hour or so. Over the next few days, your skin will develop a temporary bronzed appearance as microscopic debris forms to help your skin renew itself. This naturally flakes off around day two or three. (The total healing process takes about 5 days.) You can usually pop on a tinted sunscreen or light makeup just one day after treatment to mask any redness.
BroadBand Light (BBL): Clarity and Correction
(Note: In medical aesthetics, BBL stands for BroadBand Light - not a surgical procedure!)
BBL is a powerful, non-invasive light therapy that targets specific skin concerns to restore a brighter, more even complexion. We use BBL Heroic to treat photodamage, vascular redness, and pigmentation, and we offer Forever Clear BBL to manage active acne breakouts.
What to Expect with BBL
During your session, we'll provide you with safety glasses to protect your eyes. As your skin absorbs light, you might feel a brief warm sensation or a quick snap, like a rubber band snapping. Most patients find it quite tolerable without numbing cream, though your clinician can use one if needed. Afterward, you may have some temporary redness that resolves in a few hours. If you're treating pigmented spots, you'll see them darken temporarily before they eventually fade and flake off.
There's no downtime with BBL - you can apply makeup and return to your normal routine right away. Face and neck treatments typically heal within a week, while other areas of the body may take a little longer.
Candidacy & Care
Your safety always comes first. Because these are powerful treatments, our first step is to make sure they're a safe fit for your skin type and medical history.
Which treatment is right for you?
| Feature | Moxi Laser | BroadBand Light (BBL) |
|---|---|---|
| Who is a good fit? | Great for almost everyone; safe for all skin types (Fitzpatrick I-VI). | Safe for skin phototypes 1 through 4. We cannot treat Fitzpatrick Skin Type VI with this device. |
| Current Skin Condition | Can be done safely year-round. | Your skin needs to be untanned and free of melasma before we treat. |
When to Wait
Sometimes, certain medications or skin conditions mean we need to hit pause on your treatment plan to keep your skin safe.
For Both Moxi & BBL:
We can't perform these treatments if you have taken Accutane in the last 6 months.
For BBL specifically, we'll need to postpone if you:
- Are currently pregnant.
- Have an active skin disorder in the treatment area (like an infection, an inflammatory condition, or active skin cancer).
- Are taking medications that make you sensitive to light.
- Have heavily tanned skin or a fresh sunburn.
Preparing for Your Glow: Pre-Treatment Guide
How you prep at home makes a big difference in your results.
- 4 Weeks Before (Moxi & BBL): You need to avoid all sun exposure. This means skipping outdoor tanning, tanning beds, sunless tanning sprays, and gradual tanning lotions.
- Daily SPF (Moxi & BBL): You must use an SPF with UVA and UVB protection, along with a physical sun protection product, leading up to your treatment.
- Health Updates (BBL): Please inform our team of any medical conditions or medications you're taking that might make you sensitive to light, affect how your skin heals, or impact coagulation.
- For Men (Moxi): Please arrive cleanly shaven for your appointment. You will need to take a 5-day break from shaving after your treatment, though an electric razor is totally fine to use.
Post-Treatment Care
Your skin will be busy renewing itself after you leave the clinic. Here's how to protect your fresh results:
| Care Category | Instructions & Restrictions |
|---|---|
| Sun protection | Make a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ (with UVA/UVB and physical sun protection) your daily best friend. |
| BBL Sun Rules | Avoid direct sun exposure for 14 days after your treatment, as your skin will be much more prone to sunburns and pigment changes. Grab a wide-brimmed hat or sun-protective clothing to prevent blistering or scarring. |
| Washing Up | Wash twice a day with plain, lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Use only your fingertips and a gentle patting motion. |
| What to Skip | No rubbing, scrubbing, washcloths, or exfoliating brushes (like a Clarisonic) while your skin heals. |
| Irritants | Take a break from shaving, extremely hot or cold water, and chlorinated pools or spas. |
| Keeping Comfortable | If your skin feels warm or a bit sunburned in the first 12 hours, a cold compress will feel great and help calm things down. |
