Rebuilding Skin Architecture: An Interview with HArmonyCa™ National Trainer Lisa Iverson
We're thrilled to pull back the curtain on the latest breakthrough in skin health to hit the Canadian market. HArmonyCa™ is a dual-effect hybrid injectable designed to provide an immediate lift while actively supporting your body's natural collagen growth over time. To help break down the science behind this new treatment, we sat down with our very own Lisa Iverson. As a national trainer for the product and the only nurse faculty member in Calgary, Lisa shares her early hands-on experience and explains why this advanced formulation is a total shift in how we support facial architecture.
For those who haven’t heard of it, what exactly is HArmonyCa™?
HArmonyCa™ is an injectable treatment that combines hyaluronic acid with calcium hydroxyapatite. What makes it so exciting is that it gives patients two benefits in one product: an immediate lifting effect, along with longer-term collagen stimulation. So you get that visible lift right away, but the product also continues working over time by supporting your body’s own collagen production.
HArmonyCa™ is made by Allergan Aesthetics, a division of AbbVie. What does that backing mean for the product’s quality and reliability?
Allergan is one of the most trusted names in aesthetics. Their standards around research, product quality, training, and safety are extremely high. HArmonyCa™ is new to Canada, but it’s not an untested product. It has been used internationally for many years in markets like South America and Europe, where experienced physicians have had long-term experience with it. For patients, that means they’re getting access to an innovative treatment that comes with both international experience and the backing of a highly established aesthetics company. You can learn more about the engineering behind the brand directly on the Allergan Aesthetics HArmonyCa™ profile.
What are the key benefits or results patients can expect from HArmonyCa™?
The biggest benefit is that patients can expect both an immediate lift and progressive improvement over time. When I treat one side of the face, I’ll often sit the patient up so they can compare the treated side to the untreated side. You can see that immediate lift right away. Then, over the next several months, the collagen-stimulating component continues to work. At six months and even a year, we can still see improvement because the product is helping support collagen growth and rebuild structure through the face.
What makes HArmonyCa™ a unique or “new to market” product compared to other solutions currently available?
HArmonyCa™ is unique because it’s the first product of its kind on the Canadian market that combines hyaluronic acid with calcium hydroxyapatite in this way. Traditional hyaluronic acid fillers are still useful, and HArmonyCa™ doesn’t replace them. It’s more of a missing piece we’ve been waiting for. It works beautifully alongside the other injectable treatments we already use. What makes it different is that it gives us immediate lift while also helping stimulate collagen over time.
Who is the ideal candidate for a HArmonyCa™ treatment?
The ideal candidate is someone who is starting to notice early signs of facial heaviness, mild jowling, or laxity in the lower face. It’s especially well-suited for patients who want lift and support but aren’t necessarily looking for surgery. It’s also a great option for someone who wants to be proactive about building and supporting their collagen over time. Honestly, it’s a fit for a large percentage of the patients I see, people who are beginning to notice subtle changes and want a natural-looking way to support the structure of their face.
Congratulations on being one of the first people trained in Canada to use HArmonyCa™! What did that training process involve?
Thank you! The training process started with a small group of Canadian key opinion leaders who travelled to Brazil to train with physicians who had extensive experience using the product. They brought that knowledge back to Canada and trained a select group of faculty members across the country, including me, so we could then help educate other injectors on how to use HArmonyCa™ properly. I was also able to have the product in my hands before it officially launched, which gave me the opportunity to treat patients and gain hands-on experience before it became widely available.
What does it mean for PHI and your clients that you were one of the first in the country to receive this training?
It means my clients had access to one of the earliest HArmonyCa™ injectors in Canada. Because I was trained before the product officially launched, I was able to understand the product, work with it directly, and begin seeing patient outcomes before many clinics had access to it. For PHI clients, that provides an added level of confidence. They’re not just receiving a new treatment. They’re receiving it from someone who has been directly trained, has early hands-on experience, and is helping educate other professionals on how to use it safely and effectively. You can view our full clinical team and their credentials on our PHI Calgary Team Page.
You were also selected as one of the national trainers for HArmonyCa™. How were you chosen for that role?
I was selected because I’m part of Allergan’s faculty, which is an invitation-only group of highly regarded injectors. I’ve been part of Allergan’s faculty for several years, and in that role, they bring us together to provide insight, discuss new products, understand what’s happening in the market, and help train other injectors. Being invited onto faculty is a reflection of reputation, experience, results, and recognition within the industry. I’m one of a small number of nurse faculty members across Canada, and I’m the only nurse faculty member in Calgary.
What does your role as a national trainer entail, and how does it ensure you maintain a high level of expertise with the product?
As a national trainer, I teach other injectors how to use HArmonyCa™ through Allergan workshops. That means I’m not only using the product in my own practice, but I’m also helping educate other professionals on proper technique, patient selection, anatomy, placement, and how to achieve the best possible outcomes. It keeps me very closely connected to the product, the training, and the latest clinical insights. For patients, that means they’re being treated by someone who is deeply involved in the education and rollout of HArmonyCa™, not someone who is simply learning it for the first time.
From your unique perspective as a national trainer, what is the best way to administer HArmonyCa™ to ensure the best results?
The best results come from using HArmonyCa™ strategically, especially in the lateral face and, when appropriate, the midface. I use it to help support the areas of the face that begin to lose collagen, elasticity, and stability over time. As we lose support through the lateral face, the more mobile areas of the face can begin to descend, which contributes to heaviness or jowling. HArmonyCa™ helps rebuild that support and hold the tissue in a more lifted position. It’s not just about adding volume. It’s about understanding facial structure, the vectors of lift, and where the product can create the most natural-looking support. When used properly, it can act almost like a non-surgical facelift.
Why should a patient choose PHI for their HArmonyCa™ treatment?
Patients should choose PHI because they’re receiving HArmonyCa™ from one of the first injectors in Canada trained on the product, and from someone selected by Allergan to train other injectors. That level of expertise really matters. HArmonyCa™ is an advanced injectable, and the result depends heavily on anatomy, placement, technique, and understanding how to use the product properly. At PHI, patients benefit from early access, advanced training, extensive injectable experience, and a strategic approach to natural-looking rejuvenation. With a new-to-market product like HArmonyCa™, experience and technique make all the difference.
