PHI-Y-I: The Inside Scoop on Fibroblast Plasma Pens

Fibroblast Plasma Pens

We often get asked about fibroblast plasma pens and their relation to the treatments we offer here at PHI. We love all things beauty and are always on the lookout for the latest skin treatment developments. The industry is consistently evolving, making it our job to offer our patients the safest, most up to date procedures.

Recently we had a patient in the clinic wanting to reverse the effects from her plasma pen treatment, so we investigated further. The pen claims to tighten skin tissue and is promoted for cosmetic treatments such as eye lifts, wrinkle tightening and removal of moles or skin tags. The treatment uses a device fitted with a tiny probe that ionizes oxygen and nitrogen in the air to create an electrical arc to the skin. This causes superficial tissue dehydration and carbonization, in which tiny “dots” arise on the skin. Heat is then released into the dermis, stimulating skin fibroblast cells. Finally, new collagen and elastin are generated, producing the tightening and lifting effect.

While all this sounds intriguing this procedure does not come without risks. Currently, there are numerous warnings against the treatment including an important one from Health Canada. The device itself is not Health Canada approved, meaning that many of the places that use it are sourcing the device from foreign overseas countries and bringing them illegally over the boarder. Also, the treatment is essentially burning holes in someone’s skin, which is extremely risky. Potential side effects of the treatment involve pain, swelling, redness sagging skin (which is what we have seen in our clinic), hyperpigmentation, UV sensitivity, skin peeling, crusting and infection. To operate a plasma pen, much of the training is usually only done in a one day course.

PHI Medical Aesthetics offers treatments that are incomparable to the plasma pen method. Botox and filler are Health Canada approved and safely used by millions of people each year. We have a Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon on staff and all of our injectors are licensed Registered Nurses with a combined 55 years of experience in the industry. Our prices and products we offer reflect the artistry, skill and the prestige of the brands we carry at PHI. Please know you are in the hands of the best in the industry. Do your research PHI babes, it’s your face and so worth the time and investment.
